Princes Hill Home Extension Case Study – Dancing in Dappled Light
Creating beautiful natural light, a modern cook’s kitchen and ‘a place to dance’ best sums up our client’s brief for this two story Victorian home extension, located in Princess Hill.
Having lived in the home for a number of years, Yasmin was keen to see her home developed to deliver her ideal lifestyle.
An avid dancer, she wanted room to move that delivered a lightness of being with natural easterly, dappled light, illuminating her home in the mornings.
The 'before' drawing above shows the original home extension had ‘tacked on’ a laundry and bathroom to the kitchen, however it was pokey, outdated and consumed precious, ground floor real estate.
To meet Yasmin’s brief, our home extension designers opened up the rear of the home to create flow, space and loads on natural light – all looking onto an established garden (which was protected by the builder throughout the home extension’s construction).
Floor to ceiling laminated, double glazed windows deliver security, warmth and the feel-good sensation that only natural sunshine provides. Importantly, the entire home extension facilitates this abundance of natural light to every room.
The colour selections added visual space and flow to the home extension, employing parquetry flooring from front to back with consistent warm white colours for walls, cabinetry and ceilings.
This combined with an inspired provincial kitchen design, created a space our client describes as 'better than she'd ever imagined'.
